Любить -- Нравиться

The verb нравиться/понравиться means something likе "to be pleasing to." The thing that is pleasing is the subject of the sentence; it appears in the nominative case. The person who likes it goes in the dative case.
Мне понравилась книга.
Because понравиться has the sense of x pleased me, the verb must agree with that word. Here, it is книга (the subject) that pleases я (the object), and so therefore, the verb must agree with книга. The past forms of нравиться/по- are он (-лся), она (-лась), оно (-лось) and они (-лись).

When you like to do something (in other words, if a verb follows), use любить plus the infinitive form of the verb:

Я люблю говорить по-русский.
When you like a particular some-thing, you can use either word. Любить has a stronger meaning than нравиться.
Я люблю читать литературу, но мне нравится эта книга

Most of the time, любить is used when referring to an entire category:

Я люблю все фильмы Стивена Спиелверга.
Use понравиться to say if you will like something in the future:
Вам понравятся эти книги
You guys will like those books
Use понравиться in the past when you mean you liked it and still do:
Мне понравилось этот письмо
I liked that letter (and still do)

Use нравиться or любить in the past when you want to say you liked it, but do not now.

Я любил ходить в кино - а тепер, нет.
I used to like walking to the theater.

Мне нравились конфеты.
I used to like candy.
